Simpsons Come to Universal Parks
The Simpson family will join the ranks of themed rides at Universal's Orlando and Hollywood theme parks. The Simpsons have inspired their very own ride at Universal Studios. Matt Groening and James L. Brooks, producers of the popular TV show, are expected to announce a new partnership and theme-park ride during the course of an Anaheim, California tourism convention. Groening commented on the new attraction, saying that it was designed to mimic the "home-viewing experience" of the show, "only at high speed and with lots of screaming."
There will, of course, be people dressed up to look like characters from the show, roaming the grounds of both parks, as well as souvenir stands selling "Simpsons"-themed trinkets to park-goers.
Designers for the ride drew inspiration from Krusty the Clown's vision of the ideal park. The ride will be taking the place of "Back to the Future: The Ride." Universal Hollywood will pull the plug on "Back to the Future" after Labor Day, and Orlando has already done so with their version.
The Chairman and CEO of Universal Parks, Tom Williams, has declared that The Simpsons will fit perfectly with Universal's particular brand of entertainment, which takes from film and television's most popular hits and transforms them into "exhilarating entertainment experiences." The Simpsons is certainly an undisputable hit with the public: with nearly 400 episodes and multiple Emmy victories to its name, the show is nothing short of a phenomenon.
