Bart is sitting watching cartoons. Lisa brings in a display that shows asteroid will hit the plant earth one day. Bart realizes he has no project for the science fair. Lisa tells him that he would loose the fair anyway because her project is really good. He has no idea what to do. And gets an idea when he sees Martin stuck in a tree. He asks him for help and says in exchange he will pick him first in sports.
Homer is at work sleeping. He is a woken up by a woman, Roz, who says she is his assistant. Homer shows her around and introduces her to Mr. Burns.
Bart and Martin are trying to come up with projects. Bart tells Martin he wants to make a robot. They create a robotic baby seal that can become violent when the wrong wires are crossed. Bart has the seal attack Homer. They present the robotic seal at the fair as a cute pet that has all the benefits and none of the responsibility. Everyone is impressed by the robot and the two win first place. Lisa gets second place.
Bart and Lisa are at the old folks home. Lisa goes to the old folks home and tells grandpa she got second place at the science fair. He tells her it's not that bad and introduces her to an elderly man who is sad because his wife has died and he is lonely. Bart gives him his invention and the man is delighted and begins to dance with it.
Homer is at the plant eating and his assistant is working. He gets a phone call from a friend to go to a movie and asks her to do his work while he is gone. She agrees. He is seen enjoying a movie. He goes home to tell Marge about his day and finds that Mr. Burns is waiting for him at home and tells him he has been demoted for leaving early.
At school several other older people would like buddy pets from Bart.
Homer is at the bar telling his friends that he thinks his assistant is the one who told on him. His assistant comes in and offers to buy everyone drinks and they are excited to have her.
Homer goes home and expresses his concern.
At the elderly home older people are seen playing with there more pet seals. Cameras are watching them and those watching them are unhappy because they are happy and living longer.
Homer is late and his new boss is upset.
The news reports that an elderly woman was attacked and killed by one of Bart's robots. All the seals are taken to prison. Bart and Martin go a scientist to see if he can reprogram their robots to break out of jail. The scientist agrees.
Homer talks to Ned about his new boss and he gives him advice. When he hears the name of his new boss he says he knows her and shares a story about a time he gave her a hug and she had a violent reaction.
The scientist helps the seals break out of jail by controlling them remotely. The officer thinks they are so cute he lets then out of jail.
Mr. Burns is seen rewarding Roz for her hard work. Homer says he thinks Roz should get a big hug for her efforts. He does and she has a violent reaction and gets fired. She tells Homer he is not as dumb as she thought.
The seals are seen walking down the streets back to the old folks home. The seniors are happy to see them. Everyone dances with excitement. Even the older women who died is seen dancing in heaven.
