Fans of The Simpsons can shout ‘Woo Hoo!’ to the news that the longest running comedy in history will stay on the air for at least two more years.
On Friday, FOX announced a deal was made to ensure the animated series will return for a 24th and 25th season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Earlier this week, network executives asked the actors to take a 45 percent pay cut, saying the shows economic model was no longer viable and couldn’t continue with production unless the actors agreed to this salary reduction. The actors countered, offering to take a 30 percent pay cut if they could receive a share of profits made from syndication and merchandising. FOX refused this negotiation.
Earlier on Friday, actor Harry Shearer, who voices Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders, even agreed to take a 70 percent pay cut in exchange for part of the show’s profits, which FOX also turned down.
FOX didn’t reveal details on how they resolved the salary dispute between the voice actors on the show.
But it did make homage to Homer in the network’s press release about the renewal, saying, “Woo hoo! I outlasted Andy Rooney!”
Rooney retired from his 33-year-run on 60 Minutes this past weekend.
