Sinead O’Connor has announced that after 18 days of marriage, she and her new husband Barry Herridge were calling it quits.

The Irish singer wrote on her blog that the reason for the split was due to “intense pressure” from his family. She also admitted that she and Herridge only lived together for seven days before deciding to end their marriage.

"These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about 'Sinead 'O'Connor' in the media etc.," she wrote on her blog, The New York Daily News reports. "Entitled as they are to their opinions about me maybe perhaps well deserved, there was no righteousness on anyone's part to put my husband through what he was put through as a result of his desire to be with me and to marry me and as a result of his actually marrying me."

On December 8, O’Connor and Herridge tied the knot during a 10-minute wedding service at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer’s 45th birthday.

Their romance started after a post on O’Connor’s site revealed that she was “desperate for sex.” They then met and planned to get married in December.

The day before the wedding, O’Connor revealed "With enormous joy myself and my beloved boyfriend Barry Herridge will be getting married tomorrow, December 8th 2011 at 'an un-disclosed location' in my absolute dream wedding ceremony.”

"He is a wonderful man. I love him very much," O’Connor went on to explain about the end of her short-lived marriage. "I'm sorry I'm not a more regular woman. I truly believe though it is painful to admit, we made a mistake rushing into getting married, for altruistic reasons, and weren't aware or prepared for the conseuences on my husband's life and the lies of those close to him.”

“A woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free,” she added, People reports.
