Singer and Donner Talk Future of ‘X-Men’

Singer will direct another X-Men film.

Bryan Singer will direct at least one more X-Men film, but there are more in the works. He and producer Lauren Shuler Donner spoke with Los Angeles Times about the future of the franchise, and reminisced about making the first film back in 2000. Singer said he was excited to direct another X-Men film, because he has an affinity for the characters.

From Los Angeles Times:

"I feel a connection to the X-Men characters and also the ensemble nature of the films. If you look at 'Usual Suspects'' or my last film, 'Valkyrie,' I feel especially comfortable with ensemble juggling. In the space between all the characters you can disguise a central thought that's hidden in all the discourse. I missed that with the singular relationship story of Superman. And, well, it always gives you something to cut to..."

Singer has already signed on to direct X-Men: First Class, a prequel to the original films, which will look at how the friendship between professor Xavier and Magneto soured.

Singer on First Class:

"Just doing younger mutants is not enough. The story needs to be more than that. I love the relationship between Magneto and Xavier, these two men who have diametrically opposite points of view but still manage to be friends -- to a point. They are the ultimate frenemies."

Singer also has had lunch with Hugh Jackman to discuss another project. Could they have been discussing Wolverine 2?
