The video, taped at the World of Dance competition, features the 8 and 9 year olds in scanty costumes, shaking their bodies in ways that many people have found inappropriate or, “raunchy moves straight out of the pole-dancing manual.”
The video, titled “Little Girls Going Hard on Single Ladies,” has more than 2 million hits at YouTube and the comments section has lit up with debate as to whether or not the performance was age appropriate. The story has also been covered by CNN and The New York Times.
The parents of the children defended their decisions to let their girls perform.
Melissa Presch, the mother of one of the girls, said that the costumes and routine are, “completely normal. The costumes are designed for movement, unrestricted movement and to show body lines.”
