Former Beatle, Paul McCartney, will perform at the White House on June 2 and will receive the Third Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library of Congress. President and Mrs. Obama will present the award to McCartney in the East Room of the White House, according to The Telegraph.
Stevie Wonder received the Gershwin award last year. It has been awarded annually since 2007 to a musician with a lifetime of songwriting. The award celebrates the lives of George and Ira Gershwin, the American songwriting team whose manuscripts are on display at the Library of Congress.
McCartney hinted at the award confirmation during a webcast last week when he stated, “If there is an announcement, remember where you heard it first.”
