Slumdog Continues Dream Run as Winslet and Rourke Also Win

The British Academy Film Awards gave a possible preamble of what the Oscars might be like as "Slumdog Millionaire," Kate Winslet and Mickey Rourke won the most important awards.

"Slumdog," the revelation Indian movie about an underprivileged boy making it big, won the prestigious best picture award and completed a successful night with six more honors as it was nominated 11 times.

The uncharacteristic winner has been picking up awards at every major event, including four at the Golden Globes, making it a sure favorite for the Oscars.

Another winner on Sunday was actress Kate Winslet whose role in the film "The Reader" earned her the award for best actress. She had already picked up one of those last month at the Golden Globes.

Similarly, back-from-the-dead star Mickey Rourke sealed an outstanding comeback through his leading role in "The Wrestler." The story about a washed-up fighter has the world talking about the once-forgotten actor again.

Lastly, Heath Ledger's Joker earned the late actor another posthumous award for best supporting actor in "The Dark Knight."
