SmackDown Set to Change Networks
The WWE announced Monday that MyNetworkTV will exclusively broadcast WWE SmackDown, beginning in the fall of 2008.
As a result of this move, SmackDown will return to many of the same UPN affiliates that broadcasted it before UPN merged with the WB to create The CW. These same UPN affiliates were where SmackDown and the WWE's popularity and ratings reached their all-time highest.
SmackDown had been a staple on The CW, and UPN before it, since 1999. The WWE started shopping their popular show when the negotiating window between The CW and WWE expired Jan. 31 of this year.
MyNetworkTV's WWE acquisition figures to be a huge boost to the network, considering that the WWE has some of the most loyal fans of any sport, which make WWE programming consistently among the highest rated cable programs each week.
