Snoop Avoids Jail Time

The rapper was given five years' probation and community service in place of jail time for his October 2006 arrest.

Snoop Dogg pleaded no contest Wednesday to felony gun and drug charges. Lucky for him, he avoided what could have been years in prison.

The 35-year-old rapper agreed to five years' probation and 800 hours of community service. He appeared somber and reserved in court, not saying much else than "no contest" when the charges were read.

Until his recent arrest, Snoop Dogg had been relatively trouble free for some time. The clean stretch ended when Snoop was arrested at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California on October 26 of last year on suspicion of transporting marijuana.

Snoop avoided a sentence that could have put him in jail for four years. The judge made several rulings along with his probation, including that Snoop Dogg could not have any gang members in his entourage. The rapper must also notify the probation department before leaving the state.
