E!’s Dirty Soap reality series showed viewers how dramatic soap opera stars’ lives are not just on screen, but off screen as well. And now reality is proving that as well.
The UK’s Daily Mail reported Nick Santino committed suicide Wednesday, one day after his 47th birthday, but age wasn’t the reason behind his death.
According to the suicide note he left behind, he was very upset by his decision to euthanize his pit bull Rocco.
"Today I betrayed my best friend and put down my best friend," close friend Stuart Sarnoff said Santino wrote in the note. "Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn't deserve this."
According to Us Weekly, the Brooklyn native acted in seven episodes of All My Children and six episodes of Guiding Light.
Neighbor Lia Pettigrew said he was also distraught because he felt “harassed” by his building management company, who threatened to fine him $250 for keeping a dog in his home.
Other tenants in his building reportedly complained about Rocco’s barks, but neighbor Kevan Clearly said, "the dog was not a barker, but somebody complained that the dog would bark."
Before overdosing on pills, Santino had called an ex-girlfriend at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police found his body in his bedroom.
