Is Social Networking the End of Super Bowl Ads?
It seems that everything today is somehow connected to a social networking site. Without a doubt, Facebook and Twitter have taken over the Internet. Even movies and television series rely on these social networking websites to boost up their ad campaigns and promotional sales. Therefore, it seems only inevitable that social networking would take priority over something as significant as the Super Bowl.
For the first time in 23 years, Pepsi will not be featured in a commercial at this year’s Super Bowl. The company has instead set their sights on social networking websites. Word is that Pepsi is pulling out all the stops for a social networking campaign that will include an interactive feature that is to last for months. It could be considered unconventional, but many experts say it is the right move for Pepsi and other large companies just like it.
Although some companies will feature a Super Bowl commercial, they too have turned to Facebook and Twitter. Budweiser opened a poll on Facebook to allow fans to decide which commercial will be aired during the telecast.
