Social Networking Site Announces CBS Reality Show's Renewal

The Amazing Race, the CBS reality show, has been picked up for a 15th season and the news was anounced via the up-and-coming social networking Web site, Twitter.com.

The popular CBS reality show, The Amazing Race, has been renewed for an astonishing 15th season and the announcement came courtesy of a Web service.

According to an article on Variety.com, "[The Amazing Race host, Phil] Keoghan broke the news himself, via his 'Phil Keoghan Rides Across America' Twitter site."

Instead of using the traditional channels, CBS opted to make the big announcement using Twitter.com, whose popularity with the viewing public and with Hollywood's A-list has skyrocketed over the last several months.

According to HollywoodReporter.com, "Casting for the 15th edition of 'Race' is under way. Keoghan is on a 40-day, 3,500-mile bike ride across America, which ends in New York City on May 9, the day before the season finale of Amazing Race 14. Along the way, he will appear at three of the open castings calls: Chicago (April 24), Pittsburgh (May 1) and New York (May 8)."

The renewal of the show was a no-brainer considering its consistent performance in its Sunday night slot.

The Variety.com article mentions ratings specifics, "The latest edition of 'Race' is averaging 10.5 million viewers and a 3.4 rating/8 share among adults 18-49. Show is also big with adults 25-54, averaging a 4.3/10."

The 15th season of the CBS reality show is sure to continue its consistent sweep at the Emmy Awards, bringing home the coveted top reality competition honor for the last six years. While the show's return is a joyous one, it also enables Keoghan to continue his cross-country biking trip through Nebraska in an effort to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis.

The Amazing Race comes from Jerry Bruckheimer TV, Earthview Inc., ABC Studios and Amazing Race Prods. Executive producers are Bertram van Munster, Jonathan Littman, Hayma Screech Washington and Bruckheimer.
