Some Famous Faces at John Hughes's Funeral

John Hughes was laid to rest in a quiet ceremony outside of Chicago.

Past stars of John Hughes's high school-themed movies gathered to pay their respects to the late filmmaker, E! Online reports.

Matthew Broderick, Ben Stein and Vince Vaughn attended the invitation-only funeral at the WenBan Funeral Home in Lake Forest, Ill. It began at noon on Tuesday and lasted a little more than two hours.

Stein, who appeared in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," starring Broderick, spoke during the service.

"We'll never see his like again," he told reporters afterward. "He was the Wordsworth of the suburban America postwar generation. He was a great, great, great genius and as much of a friend and a great family man as he was a poet."

After the funeral, the mourners proceeded to the Lake Forest Cemetery, where Hughes was buried.

Molly Ringwald, who starred in the Hughes films "16 Candles," "The Breakfast Club" and "Pretty in Pink," was not present at the private service but did pay public tribute to Hughes, writing him a eulogy in the New York Times.

Hughes died last Thursday after suffering a heart attack while walking in New York City. He was 59.
