The Jay Leno Show premieres Monday at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC, and has some people worried.

The premiere of "The Jay Leno Show" Monday at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on NBC has many in the television business skeptical and concerned about the future of primetime.

The show will air Monday through Friday and costs about the same as one hour-long drama. NBC made the decision largely to save money. Also, the network's overall ratings have been low for awhile.

"Writers jobs, actors jobs, directors jobs will take a beating," veteran actress Betty White told the Associated Press.

Some people think that NBC needs to feature the type of programming that will boost its ratings and not hold to traditional television models. "Anything that brings people back to television is great, I think," Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," said.

"The Tonight Show" has received low ratings since Leno left the program in May.

While Leno will incorporate some elements of "Tonight" when he hosted, there will be some things unique to "The Jay Leno Show."

Nonetheless, NBC seems to be counting on Leno for a ratings boost.

"I'm trying to keep my head down," Leno said in a conference call, according to the Boston Herald. "It is flattering the network has that faith in me."
