Someone Stole Herman Munster's Identity
All the talk about credit card fraud and identity theft is enough to make anyone paranoid, even Herman Munster. Apparently an online chat room set up to market stolen credit card numbers and consumer information tried to sell the fictional characters identity. Getting a fraudulent credit card with the name Herman Munster on the front would have been a neat trick, no sales clerk would ever catch that. The crooks had the head of the Muster clan's address listed as 1313 Mocking Bird Lane, the same address of the Muster's house on the popular television show. CardCops Inc., a company in Malibu, California, was recording the transaction and said that it was most likely a fan of the show who put the information out there deliberately. Evidence suggests that the thief, known online as "Supra," operates from somewhere overseas. The Munster's are a fairly well known family in the united states, which suggests that the person who tried to sell it was not familiar with American pop culture. "Phishing" which is the method that many identity thieves use, is something that everyone should be aware of. They send emails from companies that appear to be legitimate, such as banks, and get all the person's information through forms that they are asked to fill out. Banks, credit card companies, cell phone companies and any other type of institution where money is exchanged will never ever ask for your credit card information in an email.
