A fter getting reports of Trojan e-mails and exposure to hackers due to use of their copy-protection technology that is placed on their music, Sony BMG, the joint record label, was forced to suspend use of the software. The copy-protection software, nicknamed XCP, is used to limit the number of copies that can be made from the original Sony BMG CD. The record label, facing numerous lawsuits in America, admitted Friday that use of this software could possibly put users at risk of hacker attacks and viruses. Sony BMG assures the public that this software problem will only affect computers and not other CD playing devices.
