Sony releases first trailer for ‘Men In Black III’ (video)

Sony Pictures finally released the first trailer of Men in Black III Monday. The film stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, who last appeared as Agents J and K in 2002’s Men in Black II.

As E! News notes, the trailer starts by reminding us about what we loved about the first two films, showing off the men in sunglasses and the memory-erasing device in use. However, we soon learn that Smith’s Agent J cannot get access to everything and, when he goes to a supervisor played by Emma Thompson, he finds out that Jones’ Agent K has been dead for forty years. So, the trailer reveals that the new film is a time travel story, where Smith gets to meet a younger Jones, played by Josh Brolin.

According to The New York Daily News, script and production delays have kept Men in Black from the screen for the past nine years. The first two films made a combined $1 billion worldwide. The first film was released back in 1997.

Reuters reports that Sony is using all the marketing tools they can to promote the film. Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Picture Worldwide Marketing and Distribution said in a statement that, by working with Dwight Caines, President of Worldwide Digital Marketing for Sony Pictures Entertainment, the trailer launch became “a distinct, compelling, and significant impact with moviegoers around the world.”

The film is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two, and is set for release on May 25, 2012. You can catch the trailer right here:
