Soul Patrol takes over the charts
The success of Taylor Hicks' first single has put to rest any doubts that the crazy crooner would have trouble finding a buying fan base.
Continuing the No. 1 streak of debut singles from "American Idol" champs, Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud?" shot straight to the top in its first week on the Billboard charts, selling over 190,000 copies.
"I've been a hard working musician for the past ten years trying to become the best singer and harmonica player I could be and I'm thrilled that I can now focus entirely on my music," says Hicks. "Having a number one single is only the beginning."
While Hicks' debut sales fall below those of previous "Idol" winners Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard, who both sold well over 200,000 copies each in their first weeks, "Do I Make You Proud?" surpasses the numbers of Fantasia Barrino and last year's winner Carrie Underwood.
Hicks is riding high on his success after "American Idol." In addition to his work on commercials for Ford, Hicks was named People magazine's Hottest Bachelor. He is also hitting the road this summer on the American Idols Live! tour and is releasing his first album later in the fall.
