A day after cyclist Alberto Contador was stripped of his Tour de France title and banned from cycling for 2 years for alleged doping, a sketch comedy show on France's Canal+ went after tennis star Rafael Nadal and Spanish athletes in general.
In the sketch, Nadal can be seen stopping at a gas station. He drinks a bottle of water and then refuels his Landrover by peeing in the gas tank. The car then races away, and Nadal is later seen pulled over by the Gendarmerie for speeding at 280km/h.
The closing title card questions whether Spain's dominance in sports is coincidental.
The Spanish don't think the sketch is very funny. The Spanish Tennis Federation said it is weighing a defamation lawsuit and has called on Canal+ to remove the video from the Web. Nadal's uncle and trainer, Toni Nadal, said the tennis star - a six-time French Open winner - will not take legal action.
