Spartans Overcome Rambo

This weekend's box office turned out to be a bit of a surprise.

To the surprise of many, it appears that "Meet The Spartans" has beat "Rambo" for the weekend box office. Both movies were in their opening weekend. "Meet The Spartans," which is a parody of "300" to the vain of "Date Movie," "Scary Movie," or any of the many sequels, is estimated to have made 18.7 million dollars at the box office this weekend.

Reueters interviewed Paul Dergarabedian, the president of Media By Numbers, which compiles the box office estimates, and he said, "I think everyone expected 'Rambo' to be number one...but there was a big enough audience looking to have silly, mindless fun at movie theaters." Interestingly enough last year, on this same weekend a similar comedy, "Epic Movie" came out and made around the same amount at the box office.

According to Reueters, Rambo came in second for the weekend with about 18.2 million dollars. Coming in third was "27 Dresses" with 13.6 million. Last weekend's big winner, "Cloverfield," came in fourth with 12.7 million. Followed by "Untraceable" closed out the top 5 at the bottom with 11.2 million dollars on its opening weekend.
