One year after Britney Spears's comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, the pop star has gotten a third nomination to come back to his year's show, but there is no word as to whether she'll do the repeat performance, reported Reuters.

The channel has been putting out the nominations in its categories for the past few weeks and has named Spears on Friday as one of five candidates in the coveted Video of the Year award for her single, "Piece of Me." The title has already earned her nominations for best female video and best pop video, according to Reuters.

Also in the category of Video of the Year are the Jonas Brothers' "Burnin' Up," Chris Brown's "Forever," Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up" and the Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go," reported Reuters.

The nominees for best rock video were also released on Friday. They are Paramore's "CrushCrushCrush," Slipknot's "Psychosocial," Linkin Park's "Shadow of the Day," Foo Fighters' "The Pretender" and Fall Out Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It."

Spears's nomination is particularly cool because of the speculation about whether she will take the chance at showing up at the MTV Video Music Awards and the memories of her much-derided appearance last year, according to Reuters. The pop star herself pushed more into the hype by putting out a series of promotional spots for the upcoming awards show with a real life 9,000-pound elephant actually in the room with her.

All this is after her two marriages, two children and two tries at rehab. The pop star is trying to re-launch her career after last year's show with a performance of her "Gimme More" that definitely proved a publicity bomb for Spears and a ratings boon for MTV, reported Reuters.
