Spears to Release New Album in December

The former train wreck is hoping to score a comeback as pop princess with a new album.

Pop superstar Britney Spears will try her hand a second time at a comeback with the release of a new album this December, according to the Associated Press.

Her 6th album, Circus, is set to be released on December 2, her 27th birthday. The release will be just a little over a year after her first album comeback attempt, Blackout, proved to be her least successful album. Spears did little promotion for the album and combined with her year of erratic behavior and crumbling personal life, the album flopped.

Spears has been continuing her effort to rehabilitate her image and won three Video Music Awards at the 25th MTV VMAs this month, the first of her career. This came after her disastrous performance at the 2007 VMAs.

Spears also received critical acclaim for her recent guest spots on CBS's How I Met Your Mother.

Spears's personal life has straightened out since her father, James Spears, took conservatorship. Her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline has also been resolved so that Spears has visitation rights.

Producers on Spears's new CD include Nate "Danja" Hills and Max Martin, who produced her first hit single, "Baby One More Time." The first single from Circus, "Womanizer," will be released to radio Sept. 22.
