Spector Suspected
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the murder-trial of music producer Phil Spector, once dubbed the "Tycoon of Teen" for his role in developing the "girl group" phenomenon. Spector will, after much delay, be tried for the 2003 murder of B-movie star and TV actress, Lana Clarkson. Clarkson gained a cult following for her roles in the Barbarian Queen movies.
Spector and Clarkson were seen leaving a club together at 2 a.m. on February 3, 2003. Clarkson was found shot to death in Spector's California castle at 5 a.m. the same day. The defense is expected to argue that a drunk and suicidal Clarkson "kissed the gun," thereby taking her own life. The prosecution is expected to argue that Spector, known for both outbursts of anger and reclusive nature, put the .38 colt revolver in Clarkson's mouth and fired.
Opening arguments are expected to begin April 30. Cameras will be allowed in the courtroom.
