Spidey in Tokyo
Spider-Man 3 made its global debut in Tokyo today, while stars like Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst attended the premiere, held at a ritzy Tokyo arena.
In this latest superhero flick, which is directed by Sam Raimi, Maguire's character (Peter Parker) is juggling his photography job at a newspaper company, college schoolwork, his love life and being the superhero to protect the city. During the film, Spider-Man gains new powers when his Spidey costume turns black, this is when his dark side comes into play, while leaving him in a tangled mess and in an inner struggle just as two new villains, Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Venom (Topher Grace), come his way.
Parker also must face his former best friend and now enemy, Harry Osborn (James Franco). Fans will be reminded that Spider-Man was to blame for the death of Harry's father, who also happened to be an evil genius in the first film.
Maguire has also recently hinted that this could be his final Spider-Man movie.
"I feel like this film is kind of a natural conclusion to a lot of stuff that's happened in the first two movies," Maguire said.
"I'm not going to make them just because they've been successful," Maguire said.
Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 3 opens to general audiences May 1 in Japan and May 4 globally.
