Spielberg Set to Do Abraham Lincoln Biopic
Steven Spielberg has switched the order of his follow-up projects after Tintin, which will begin production in September of this year, to the long-rumored Abraham Lincoln biopic.
Spielberg made the announcement leading up to the release of the long anticipated film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is set to be released May 22, 2008.
"I want to start Lincoln in early 2009, because it's Lincoln's 200th anniversary," Spielberg told German magazine Focus while doing advance press for Indiana Jones. But confirmation from studio executives regarding the switch has yet to be made.
The announcement of Lincoln is a bit of a surprise, given that Spielberg's next film was thought to be Chicago Seven, which is about protesters at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. But one of the big reasons it was bypassed in the queue was because the script was not yet ready, therefore forcing production to be delayed.
Liam Neeson was reported years ago to be in talks to star as Lincoln, but an announcement has not yet been made.
