The Split Between Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes

What went wrong in Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes' relationship? When news broke about their separation the couple, who had been married for five years, were miles apart.

Winslet was in Mexico with her children and friends, while Mendes was with friends in New England. Through their lawyers, the pair said that they separated earlier this year.

While the two were seen together at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in 2009, Winslet has walked the red carpet alone for many of this year's award ceremonies, such as the Oscars in Los Angeles and the BAFTAs in London.

During last year's Golden Globes, Winslet thanked Mendes in her acceptance speech after winning best actress for her work in Revolutionary Road, which was directed by Mendes.

British papers have been speculating that their marriage started to fall apart during the filming of Revolutionary Road, which is ironic in that the film is about a marriage that is on the rocks. When the two filmed the movie together, they started seeing sides of each other that they hadn't noticed before.

According to Telegraph, Mendes revealed:

"I tend to cut off at the end of the day and watch a baseball game or something. I don't like to bring work home."

After working with each other on Revolutionary Road, the concept of living and working together may have taken a toll on their relationship.
