The recent split between actor Russell Brand and popstar Katy Perry has been used to the advantage of one church in Ohio.
Perry's parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, are both pastors with strong Evangelical beliefs. The pair spoke out about their daughter's divorce to the congregation of Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio on Wednesday, after the church advertised the celebrity appearance.
"I'm sure Katy is trending on the Internet just to get you to church tonight," Mary claimed to 300 worshippers in her 90 minute preaching segment.
Other churches have also decided to use the same publicity stunt, as the Hudson's are set to preach to a church in Georgia on Sunday.
The Hudsons place more importance on being at church, not how the worshipper got there.
"I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012," Mary reasons.
Despite their beliefs, the Hudsons are accepting of their daughter's "saucy" lifestyle. In fact, Perry's success has helped the Hudsons share their beliefs.
"God has given us a platform to go in and meet people, and they like us because we are cool," shares Perry's father.
Perry and Brand officially split on Dec. 30 after Brand filed for divorce out of respect for Katy's parents and their opposition to divorce. It is rumored that the two parted ways because Brand would always poke fun at the Hudson's extreme religious beliefs.
