Springer to be New Ringmaster

Talk show host will be new host of "America's Got Talent."

Talk show ringmaster Jerry Springer will try his hand at another venue: talent competitions. The "Jerry Springer Show" host and former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant is set to host "America's Got Talent." NBC's Craig Plestis announced the plan Monday, saying that the TV personality is perfect for the role, as he is known for presiding over unpredictable events on a daily basis. (Springer has hosted "The Jerry Springer Show" for sixteen years.)

The host tells reporters that he is sure he will feel comfortable hosting the talent show, as he's "been around some of America's most talented individuals" on his talk show. Springer, 63, is planning on joining the show as it returns for a second season this coming summer. Hosting for the first season was Regis Philbin, who decided not to return for a second season. The star of "Live with Regis and Kelly," based in New York, opted out of a second time around due to the "heavy traffic schedule" that came with taping in Los Angeles.
