The Star Wars blu-ray set, released last week, has set record sales.
The nine-disc set has already made $84 million worldwide in sales. In the U.S. alone, over half a million units have been sold.
“Our fan’s enthusiasm to celebrate Star Wars continues to amaze us,” said Kayleen Walters, senior director of marketing for Lucasfilm.
A big draw to fans in purchasing the set was the hours of special features that come with the films, including documentaries and interviews.
Some fans, however, nixed their plans to purchase the set after series creator George Lucas made further changes to the series, specifically the original three films.
All six Star Wars films will also reappear in cinemas-this time in 3D. This marathon begins in February 2012 with the release of the Episode I: The Phantom Menace(1999). The other five films will be released on a yearly basis in their chronological order, rather than their release order. The first Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope, was released in 1977.
