Stephen Chow Leaves 'Green Hornet' Film

Former director and sidekick of 'The Green Hornet' calls it quits

Most people don't know what to expect from Seth Rogen as The Green Hornet, but with the complete withdrawal of the film's former director Stephen Chow, it's become unclear what will actually happen with the film.

Chow ("Kung Fu Hustle", "Shaolin Soccer"), who at one point was set to direct the re-make of the crime fighting "Green Hornet", stepped down from directing the project. Even with his resignation Chow agreed to stay on as Rogen's sidekick, Kato.

While it's not clear what drove Chow from the film, a spokesperson for Columbia Pictures told Entertainment Weekly that "there was a mutual and amicable decision by both sides to move on."

The film's new director, Michel Gondry, and the rest of the crew are on the lookout to cast a new Kato before filming begins in September for the 2010 release date.

In the superhero flick Seth Rogen will play newspaper publisher Britt Reid, who goes out into the night to fight crime as The Green Hornet. Cameron Diaz is currently in talks to play the lead female role.
