Horror novelist Stephen King is helping troops come home for the holidays.
King, along with his wife Tabitha, donated almost $13,000 in order to bus soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard back to their hometowns for Christmas, reports the Associated Press.````Their generous contribution covers two bus trips for 150 members of the 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Unit from Camp Atterbury in Indiana to Portland, Maine and Bangor, Maine.
Although the Kings were approached with a request for exactly $13,000, Stephen was not comfortable with this number, deeming 13 unlucky.
He didn’t want any bad whammies associated with these troops,” Julie Eugley, his personal assistant, told the Banglor Daily News, reports UPI.````In order to round out the sum, Eugley chipped in the extra dollar.
Indianapolis radio station WIBC reports that the money came from the King’s personal account, and not from their foundation. ````The troops that King helped are scheduled to go to Afghanistan in January of 2010.
