Stephen Soderbergh's film stops production
Brad Pitt was originally all set to play in Steven Soderbergh's "Moneyball," a film based on an Oakland baseball team and its manager, but, as of today, reports say that the start of filming has been halted. The movie, based on a 2003 novel of the same name by Michael M. Lewis, focused on the modern and analytical approach to putting together a baseball team. Sony Insider says the film was halted because Columbia Studios was not satisfied with the latest draft of the script.
Reelzchannel.com stated that Amy Pascal, the chairwoman of Columbia, was afraid the rewritten story line (which had changed significantly from earlier drafts) would be unappealing and too difficult for audiences to digest. In addition to Pitt starring as the lead role of baseball manager Billy Beane, several other veteran baseball players were slated to appear in the film, such as Scott Hatteberg and David Justice. As of now, Soderbergh, along with Pitt, is searching for a new film company to promote his work.
