Stern Sidekick Stabbed Self 9 Times

Howard Stern’s sidekick, Artie Lange, allegedly stabbed himself nine times in the gut with a 13-inch kitchen knife in a violent suicide attempt, police said.

The comedian often joked about his battles with weight and drug addiction and recently published a revealing memoir about his tumultuous childhood.

Hoboken Police Detective Mark Competello said Lange’s mother found him Saturday morning on the floor of his waterfront home in Hoboken, N.J. The 42-year old comedian was unconscious but breathing when he was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. Doctors cleaned the wounds and operated on Lange, and he has been released from the hospital.

In an interview with the New York Post in October, Lange talked about some of his demons:

“I had a heroin problem. And I've been clean since April. Off of everything. And I'll tell you, I was taking Subutex to combat that, and I put more weight on me than I ever have, and I got off of that, I got off of heroin, and I lost about 50 pounds, and I tell you I've never felt better. I'm completely clean and sober now."”

Stern referred to the incident on his Sirius XM radio program by saying, “Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He’s a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don’t forget how great he is.”
