Steve Carell is returning to TV with a guest spot on The Simpsons.
The former star of the sitcom The Office will voice Dan Gillick, an accountant for mobster Fat Tony (voiced by Joe Mantegna) and who is put in charge of his boss’s operations when Tony is summoned to jury duty.
“He’s nervous, and then Fat Tony says that he’s got to kill some people and then he’s really nervous because he actually wants to do it,” producer Al Jean said. “The line between Ivy League MBA and ruthless murderer is a very thin one.”
Dan ends up getting support from Homer while they are on the same bowling team.
Carell’s next film is the comedy Burt Wonderstone, which also stars Jim Carrey, with whom Carell acted with in Bruce Almighty (2003). The film is set for release in January.
The episode is set to air in the fall during the show’s upcoming 24th season.
Carell worked on The Office from 2006-2011 as both actor and occasional writer, winning five Emmy nominations during that period. He left the show at the end of the previous season.
His other films include The 40-Year Old Virgin (2005) and Get Smart (2008).
