Steven Spielberg travels through space in new project

Spielberg's newest developing film is based on the theories of a Caltech physicist.

Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg, who hit the box-office hard last summer with the successful sci-fi hit "War of the Worlds," is set to direct another space-traveling film for Paramount.

The untitled film will be based on the gravity field theories of Kip Thorne, a physicist at Caltech and one of the world's leading relativity experts. Unlike "War of the Worlds," the film will incorporate real science, including black holes, gravity waves and hypotheses that as yet have not been ventured into.

Although no screenplay has been developed, Thorne has worked on a treatment for the film with producer Lynda Obst, who will be producing the movie through her production label at Paramount. The screenplay is expected to take three years to complete.

No clear concept has been developed, although the plot has been described as similar to "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Spielberg's upcoming projects include "Indiana Jones 4," another science fiction film "When Worlds Collide," and an untitled biopic of Abraham Lincoln.
