Streisand Beats Out Carey for Top Spot

This weeks Billboard chart shows Streisand as number one.

Barbara Streisand proves this week that sometimes the elder is the better.

The 67-year-old singer trumped over the 39-year-old Mariah Carey to take the number one spot on the Billboard charts. Streisand's "Love is the Answer" sold over 180,000 copies, while Carey's much celebrated "Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel" debuted at third with 167,912 albums sold. Paramore's "Brand New Eyes" snuck in between the ladies at number two with 175,112 sales.

For Streisand this is of course great news, being the best debut since "Higher Ground" was the number one album in 1997. However, the singer is no stranger to being on top; she now has eight number one albums and is the first to acquire this honor over five different decades.

Paramore also have much to be excited about. This album upgraded 18 spots from their last album debut, which only hit number 20 in its first week in 2007.

Carey's debut is more disappointing. Her last album, "E=MC2" had greater sales in its second week than "Memoirs" had in its first.

Also in the top five are Breaking Benjamin's "Dear Agony" at number four and Alice in Chain's "Black Gives Way to Blue" at number five.
