Studios Might be Off to See the Wizard, Again

Remakes of 'Wizard of Oz' predicted

Hollywood plans to adapt one or more of L. Frank Baum’s 20-plus Oz book series. But studio executives insisted that these films would not be a remake of the 1939 The Wizard of Oz. Rather, they are interested in making an adaptation that follows Baum’s novel more closely than the 1939 version. They’re also looking at a prequel film about how the wizard got to Oz, and a dark sequel about Dorothy’s granddaughter visiting Oz.

The film is being produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, which is currently bringing us The Twilight Saga.

From Los Angeles Times:
"The idea is that no one has done a faithful adaptation of the Frank Baum books, something that's more of a straight adventure story," said producer Wyck Godfrey."

Say what you will about the stream of adaptations, sequels, prequels and reboots Hollywood has been throwing at us. They make studios money. Lots and lots of money. So it’s likely we’ll see at least one Oz inspired film sometime in the next few years.
