The Sundance Film Festival Makes Changes

Sundance Film Festival directors stretch out the festival's reach.

Well, movie lovers it seems 2010 will bring big changes for the Sundance Film Festival. The festival is no longer confined to Utah state boundary lines. A selection of films will be made available to audiences across the country. This year, films will hit the road, internet, and cable.

On Thursday, film directors will travel to eight U.S. cities, giving fans a chance to attend several screenings a little closer to home. Cities include, Chicago; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Brooklyn, New York; Ann Arbor, Michigan; Nashville, Tennessee; Brookline, Massachusetts; and Madison, Wisconsin.

Those who would rather enjoy the Sundance Film Festival from the comfort of their own home can rent films through Youtube or watch them through video-on-demand. Youtube will offer three new films and two films from last year. The Sundance Institute will make three films available through video-on-demand on each film’s premiere day.

So, yes, the day has finally come. It feels good to say audiences will not have to trek through Midwest winter conditions or wait for Sundance flicks to hit independent-film theaters months after their premiere dates.
