Super Bowl Ad Sales

While American economy flounders, Super Bowl ad sales go on virtually unaffected

According to NBC, all but two ad spots for the Super Bowl have now been filled. The Super Bowl is annually the most watched event all year on television and ad spots are said to sale for $2.4 million to $3 million. NBC feels that this is a huge victory for the company in light of the current economic crisis that has many companies floundering just to stay afloat.

General Motors is one of the many companies struggling to stay competitive in spite of a wavering economy and has purchased in game time for the last sixteen years. This year though General Motors has announced they will not purchase any in game ad time but rather time surrounding the Super Bowl airing. Other companies such as Fed Ex who has participated in Super Bowl advertising for twelve years has decided to opt out saying that it did not seem "appropriate" with the nation in such economic turmoil.

Although the United States's current economic crisis may not have affected the sales of ad time during the Super Bowl, it seems to inherently effect what companies are purchasing the time.
