Super Bowl Ads
It appears that the declining state of the economy has done little to sway big business from spending big bucks on Super Bowl ads. NBC recently announced that it had sold out of all available ad space for the telecast and had raked in a record $261 million in ad revenue for all of Super Bowl Sunday.
It has been largely speculated how the current state of the economy would affect ad sales this year for the Super Bowl. Annually, the sports event is the most watched telecast of the year. Super Bowl Sunday is a time that has become synonymous in America and also a sort of advertising utopia. No programs can realistically compete with the viewership of the Super Bowl throughout the year and ironically enough a portion of those people are likely tuning in to simply enjoy some of the hilarious commercials.
NBC had sold all 69 ad spots. This might have come as a surprise to some considering that NBC network spokesman Dick Ebersol had proclaimed earlier this week that several ad spots remained and NBC would not sell these spots at a last minute discount no matter the circumstances. Regardless of NBC's success in selling the allotted ad time, it is almost always certain that some new, edgy, and hilarious commercials will keep some viewers on their toes.
