For the first time ever, football fans who will not be able to enjoy the Super Bowl at home will be able to stream the game on mobile devices like cell phones and tablets.
The NFL made the announcement Tuesday, according to The Associated Press, saying that not only will the Super Bowl be included, but the remainder of the playoffs, which includes four Wild Card games and two conference championship games, as well.
The games will be only available to view on Verizon phones using the Verizon NFL App, though, notes the Washington Post. Like NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcasts, which are already streamed through the app, it will give viewers the chance to see alternate camera angles, in-game statistics and highlights.
According to The Los Angeles Times, a record 111 million viewers tuned in to last year’s Super Bowl, which saw the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. NBC, which is broadcasting this year’s game, and the NFL will try to reach even more people through this app.
Super Bowl XLVI will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 5. Madonna will perform the half time show, which will be streamed as well on the Verizon app.
The NFL’s announcement did not say if advertisements, which can be more entertaining than the game itself, will be streamed as well, notes Endgadget.
