Superman and the Cheerleader to Produce New CW Pilots
Two superheroes are apparently believe they've developed the power of production. Tom Welling and Hayden Panettiere are going to be producing two separate pilots for The CW.
Both new shows will center around college students dealing with life situations. Welling, who is currently co-executive producing the current season of the teenage Superman show (...is Clark still a teenager? I haven't been keeping up with Smallville...), will be producing Hellcats, a show about competitive college cheerleaders. According to IGN TV, the show is being likened to a cross between Bring It On and Election. The pilot is being written and executive produced by Kevin Murphy, whose other credits include Caprica and Desperate Housewives.
Panettiere will be taking her first step behind the camera with her show, HMS - a show about a "sexy freshman class", specifically the girls in said class, who are attending Harvard Medical School. (So, Bring It On: All or Nothing crossed with Scrubs?) Dyslexic fans of Zac Efron will unfortunately probably think it's a TV series based on High School Musical. Whether they will be disappointed with the results, however, I'm not sure of. Its pilot is being scripted by Amy Holden Jones, who also wrote Mystic Pizza and Indecent Proposal, and the show will no doubt exude loads of generic girl power.
