'Superman' reboot delayed until 2013

Daniel S Levine

Warner Bros. announced today that Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, now titled Man of Steel, will have its released date pushed back from a holiday season release to the 2013 summer blockbuster season.

According to Reuters, the film was originally set for release in December 2012. Now, the film is set for June 14, 2013.

This will be advantageous for the film’s potential rivals, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Lone Ranger, according to Entertainment Weekly, because they will have one less competitor.

Man of Steel will now likely see Ironman and Thor sequels as rivals, turning summer 2013 into a real Marvel versus DC fight. Pixar’s sequel to Monsters, Inc. will also be hitting theaters that summer.

Snyder has cast the film with Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Superman’s father.
