The final five Upolu members returned to camp feeling excited after last week’s tribal council. They had formed a core alliance on the very first day, and they managed to make it to the end together. Naturally, this also meant the gloves were now off…
Albert began to consider his possibilities. Although he and Sophie were glued at the hip all season, Albert realized she was becoming a dangerous player and needed to get voted out next. Ideally, he wanted to go to the final three with Rick and Coach and told them as much. Albert planned to show the jury that Coach was the cult leader, Rick the blind follower and himself, the rogue who had played a strategic game.
The only thing that would screw it up is Ozzy reentering the game. Ozzy defeated Edna in this week’s duel, bringing him one step closer to doing just that. Although the tribe showed no mercy voting Edna out last week, they helped her during tonight’s duel. I’m not exactly sure why it’s allowed, but more importantly, what a bunch of hypocrites! You eliminated the poor woman, and now you’re rooting for her?
It’s a testament to Ozzy being such a threat, but Sophie thought of another problem: everyone who goes to Redemption Island spends uninterrupted time with Ozzy. Essentially, he has the last word before they join the jury, which goes a long way in the finals. Sophie advised Coach it would be best to vote Brandon out next since she considers Brandon to be a big threat, too. His deep-rooted faith and morality would win him votes in the end.
Albert tried to convince Coach otherwise because he wanted to have the numbers on his side. Brandon walked in on the conversation, and Coach told him that they were discussing jury votes. Afterwards, Coach became defensive, telling Brandon he was acting like his uncle, Russell Hantz, and being a bully. It looked like Brandon’s days were numbered.
However, those hopes were crushed at the immunity challenge when Brandon won. Things quickly got heated at camp after Rick told Brandon and Sophie that Albert spoke to him about going to the final three with Coach. Brandon confronted Albert because they had a similar deal, but Albert couldn’t talk his way out of his web of lies. Albert tried to do damage control with Brandon, and it worked. Brandon decided to forgive Albert and offer him the immunity necklace. Brandon told Coach about his plan and said he hoped Coach wouldn’t vote him out. Coach prayed about the decision he needed to make.
Brandon’s been a loose cannon all season, yet you couldn’t help but feel sorry for him at tribal. As soon as everyone settled in, he told Probst that he was giving Albert immunity. Everyone’s jaw dropped as Brandon insisted no one would vote against him. But as he talked about the time he spent in a gang and his unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about (which usually resulted in him standing alone) he grew nervous, saying it was Albert’s choice to give him back the necklace. Albert said if he felt Brandon were in trouble, he would, but Albert believed everyone would keep their word.
That’s where I lost all sympathy for Albert. I know this is a game, and everyone’s out for himself, but c’mon now. Albert took the cowardly way out instead of doing the right thing. Instead of facing the consequences of his actions, he took advantage of a naïve kid. Good work…
