Syfy Looking for More 'Battlestar Galactica' and Superheroes

Two new series being eyed, with another 'Battlestar' spin-off possible

Fans of superheroes and Battlestar Galactica may be in for a treat, as Syfy is looking to expand upon both concepts with some new series, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The cable broadcaster is looking towards two new series to boost their superhero quota. The first is Three Inches, which is about a man who discovers that he can move objects with his mind, but only for three inches. He puts his powers to use, however, by assembling a crime-fighting team of similarly pathetically powered individuals.

Mark Stern, Syfy executive VP of development, said the script is a "fun, smart, offbeat spin on the superhero genre," with a postmodern approach and tongue-in-cheek script.

The show's 90-minute pilot was written by Harley Peyton of Twin Peaks and executive produced by Bob Cooper. Three Inches will be joined by another show, titled Alphas, which also has a superhero theme, though not much else was revealed about that show.

Caprica has apparently been performing well enough for Syfy to consider greenlighting yet another Battlestar Galactica spin-off.

"We have a lot of hope for that show," Stern said. "The (DVR data) has been very promising and growing week after week. ...That world is so rich. We're sitting down with (executive producer) Ron Moore and his team. It would not necessarily be a traditional series."

The new show will take the franchise back to its space opera roots, unlike Caprica's more ground-bound drama. It had previously been rumored that the original show would be continued through periodical TV movies, and two have already been released: Razor and, recently, The Plan.

It would be very interesting if they could expand upon the First Cylon War, which was glimpsed in Razor. Judging by Stern's comments about it not being a "traditional series," the possibility of a miniseries is definitely not out of the question!
