Taco Bell Mascot Dies

The famous Chihuahua for Taco Bell ads died at age 15.

Gidget, Chihuahua and star for some of the Taco Bell commercials, has died at age 15.

According to New York Times, Gidget had suffered from a stroke on Tuesday night in Santa Clarita, Calif., at her trainer's home. Karin McElhatton, owner of Studio Animal Services, said the dog had to be euthanized after having the stroke.

Gidget had starred in Taco Bell ads from 1997 to 2000. In those commercials, she was seen saying "Yo quiero Taco Bell," which is "I want Taco Bell" in Spanish, in a dubbed male voice. Gidget also appeared in the film "Legally Blonde 2" after Taco Bell faced criticism from activists who felt the ads promoted stereotypes.

Gidget's trainer Sue Chipperton said the dog "made so many people happy," Boston Herald reports. "Gidget always knew where the camera was."
