Taylor Swift has long expressed her love of Nashville, and recently she gave back to the city by supporting education and literacy. The 22-year-old “You Belong With Me” singer donated 14,000 books to the Nashville Public Library.
According to CMT News, Swift’s donation is the largest the library has received. The books, which will be available to check out at any of the 21 branches of the library, will have a donation plate on the inside cover that reads, "A Gift to the Children of Nashville from Taylor Swift and Scholastic Inc."
While most books will be placed on the shelves of the local library, some books will be going to low-income children, daycare centers, as well as preschools. Some of the books will also be used as prizes for kids who successfully complete the summer reading program.
“Swift’s donation will help to provide incentive to encourage the love of reading and literature,” the Nashville Public Library said in a press release.
Contact Music reports the book donation isn’t the first time the “Ours” singer supported reading and education in libraries. She previously donated 6,000 books, reportedly amounting to $68,000 worth of reading material, to the Reading, Pa. Public Library. The library is located not too far from her hometown in Pennsylvania.
