Taylor Swift Stays #1 for Sixth Week

The singer is still topping the charts.

Although her sales figures are slipping, Taylor Swift continues to sit at the top of the Billboard charts with the best-selling record in the U.S. With 72,000 units sold, Fearless continues its reign. This marks the first time since 2005 that an album has had this kind of longevity, when 50 Cent's The Massacre was riding high.

Although her run is for nonconsecutive weeks, the lack of any major releases has allowed Swift to maintain her position. The album first hit No. 1 in November, and has been sitting at No. 1 for five consecutive weeks.

The week in album sales was dismal at best, with every album in Billboard's Top 30 showing major drops in sales. For the last few weeks, the top ten have been the same names, with the only movement being a shift in place.

The numbers are disheartening for the monolith that is the music industry, but holds a bright side: With sales figures this low, almost any artist can hit the top ten now.
