Taylor Swift vs. Britney Spears: The Battle for Number One
Fans and critics have been praising 18-year-old Taylor Swift's sophomore album, Fearless, which reached No. 1 instantly; it is easy to see why. The album debuted at No. 1 last month with sales of 592,000 after its first week on the shelves. This week, the 249,000 copies sold of Swift's album were more than enough to put the country star on the top of the charts ahead of Britney Spears. Spears's long anticipated Circus album dropped significantly to sales of about 200,000 copies, according to Billboard, which is 60 percent lower than her first week sales.
Swift is more than grateful for reigning on top of the charts again. Her official blog entry today is titled, "Back at number one? Seriously??" She goes on to talk about when she heard the good news, "I was told about Fearless going BACK to number one on the all-genre albums chart! I can't BELIEVE it! I never thought that would happen!! I can't thank you enough for that. It's just so amazing. You gave me something really wonderful to wake up to."
Keep up the good work Taylor and you'll stay on top!
